“Learning is repeated recall, not repeated exposure”
Takeaways:
- Memorisation is key to understanding (not just big picture top down learning)
- Metaphors and vivid imagery
- Connections to things you already understand
- Key of diffuse mode in learning and the wonders of the pomodoro technique
- Law of serendipity, start and practice
- Importance of active recall, questions and past papers (already a strength)
New ideas:

Studying with friends and the power of a community – Tried it out and love it! I find I work very well alone in the mornings (high motivation and energy) and studying with friends in the afternoon (when I have a dip) gives me a boost of energy and leads to more effective and more importantly enjoyable revision =)
Thoughts are the layering of sensations and interpretations of past experiences caused by recent sensory inputs. When there are lots of sensory inputs our brain can’t help but process them. For optimal learning having a period of minimal sensory input is optimal.
